5 For Friday and Life is Better with Friends Giveaway

It's Friday-which means we are one week closer to summer and it's also one of our favorite days to link up.
 It's 5 for Friday!

Our post is going to the birds...

We have been battling birds outside our classroom for years now.
The Culprit=Black Crows.
Did you know that they are not scared of first graders?
Or their teachers?

They are on a mission...
Any and all Brown Bag Lunch Bags are their targets.
Doesn't matter if the bags are tucked inside a student's backpack with only the slightest of brown showing.
If the backpack is unzipped, they will find it.
If you bring a Brown Bag Lunch to school, you're pretty much bringing a Happy Meal for the crows.
We warn our kiddos...
"Please keep your lunches zipped inside your backpacks."
Some listen.
Some live dangerously and tempt fate.
Did you know crows can unzip ziploc bags and enjoy Cheetos?

Did you know some like creamy peanut butter,
while others prefer crunchy?
It's true. (maybe)
And, guess what?
They do not throw away their trash...Ever. So rude!
It's torture for teachers revenge of the birds. They toy with us.

We now rely on friends to head out to lunch together.
Hand in Hand. Safety in numbers.
Brown Bags clinched tightly in their fists.
Make no eye contact and move with a purpose ~
To avoid the crows!!
Thank goodness for friends.
Life is just better with them.
To celebrate power in numbers friendship, we're joining some of our own friends for a

Oh, and did you happen to see those cute birds in the graphic?  Those are not the ones that steal our lunches.
Those are just to let you know that each of us has a "bird story" of our own to share. Yep, that's right, a bird story. Don't we all have a bird story? Ok maybe it's just us. Do you? Please say you do.

We are loving that our hubbies can hang out with their girls, accept some bunny ears, play Littlest Pet Shop along with Headbandz, and still be "Manly Men!"

We are SO done with birds, so we're monkeying around with our Firsties in our Rainforest unit.

There's a terrible fire in the city next to our school and it also happens to be right by Christy's parents' house. Our students lost power last night and came in today with all the energy that wasn't running through their houses.
It's times like these that make us pause and remember what's really important in life.
This was taken from Christy's parents' driveway.

 Some of our friends' writing.
We are so thankful for the amazing firefighters and rescue workers who are putting their lives in danger every day to help others.
Have a blessed weekend friends and stay safe.

  1. What a picture!

  2. Such pesky (and sly) crows! Your story gave me a chuckle though...I mean, your poor kiddos! Loved the quote too, it's sometimes hard to remember what really is important in life when we are so very attached to the things we have.

  3. No crows, but woodpecker that has not made holes in the house. hcarpenter@ebrschools.org

  4. Ugh! Hate crows!

  5. I don't like noisy crows!

  6. I've hearing all about that fire on the news each day. We've got one burning in Glendale now, as well, but not as nearly big as yours. Sending you all clean air thoughts and hoping they get it contained soon!

  7. The seagulls at our city zoo are ruthless. They will steal food right our of your hands!

  8. Do your students eat lunch outside?

  9. We have issues with crows too!

  10. Oh my gosh! The crows!!!
So sad to hear about the fire. How horrible!

  12. Crows are CRAZY! They are not scared of cats either! The strays we take care of can't scare them off!

  14. Birds and I are not on great terms at the moment. All through spring I have to wave my keys over my head to stop the birds from swooping me at school!

  15. That's terrible about the crows! We have a lot around where I live & they love to create a mess with our neighbor's over filled garbage cans each week! Pests! Your story was fun to read. Carol cpolston3@yahoo.com

  16. I hate when the sea gulls try to steal your food at the beach!

  17. Crows can be quite scary.

  18. Hugs to Christy's family! CROWS...icky. Wendy 1stgradefireworks@gmail.com

  22. Crows? Yikes!!! I hate them as much as I hate pigeons...why do birds think it is ok to swoop down and take our food when we are eating outside enjoying a nice day? The nerve of them.....

  23. Thinking of you girls in California with all the fires. So scary. Hope you are having a good weekend despite all that!

  24. I have to say I Love your Products. We use many in my classroom. Thanks for the simple gifts for parents.

  25. Your story about the crows cracked me up! The only bird story that I have is that there is a mother bird raising her babies in my hanging basket on the side porch. I guess I won't be planting any flowers in there this year!

I sure hope everyone affected by the fire is ok! That looks like it was a pretty bad fire.

  26. Awe... So sorry to hear about the fires in and around your cities! That is so sad! Here is FL we deal with bad storms and hurricanes and it seems when those happen, its all the kids CAN talk about. So thankful for all the "helpers" as Mr. Rogers would say. Writing about it can be so powerful for them!

    Take care!

  27. Crows also like the white plastic bags from the grocery store. One once swooped down and stole a tupperware right out of a student's hand. Eek!

  28. That fire was incredible!
    Love the dad-daughter pics.
Those monkeys are sooo ridiculously cute!
The crows don't attack our kiddos... but we do have issues with bees. (Oh and goats who are now NOT afraid of children! HA!)

  29. I can't believe those crows!! I know they are in the top ten smartest animals lists but I've never heard of them grabbing lunch bags! Hope they stop! I just found your blog through TpT, I'm your newest follower!

  30. How scary to have that kind of fire so close!

Very cute monkeys - kids love rain forest stuff so much. A great unit to choose at the end of school to keep them interested.

  31. I loved your bird story. We had black crows nesting right next to where I stood for my morning duty post. During nestbuilding time, one crow kept trying to steal my hair right off my head. After a couple of days, I got smart and got a hat.

I enjoy your creations and so do my kids. Thank you

    Carol Horton

  32. I would love to win! Thanks for the chance! Crazy crows!
