"It's Friday! It's Friday! Oh Yeah! Oh Yeah!
We're smart! We're strong! We're coooool!"
That's the cheer we do each and every Friday in our class...If at least 90% of our friends are dressed in school spirit wear of course - nothing comes for free. Ha!
"Can we do the Friday cheer?", "Can we do the Friday cheer?"
The kids beg and plead from the moment their little muddy feet hit the floor, but we keep them hanging just long enough to squeeze any last morsels of learning from our very long week before we give them the '5-6-7-8'. For we know once the cheering begins...the learning might end. But it's Friday, so a '5-6-7-8'!!
What follows is a roomful of flailing jazz hands, marvelously loud cheers, choreographed hand motions and of course laughter...lots and lots of laughter. It's Friday ya'll...something is in the air...the water...the food? We don't know what it is, but Friday just brings out the funnies in all of us.
We've learned as teachers, you cannot always fight the Friday Funnies...
They're fierce. They spread like wildfire...AND they can take over your entire body in a single snort causing the victim to wiggle, giggle, and occasionally roll around uncontrollably on the floor until we can once again regain control of any crumbs of learning that might remain. Yes, it's definitely Friday.
We teachers have adopted an "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em" attitude ~ minus the floor rolling, of course.
Dear Friend,
I like it when you are not so hyper.
P.S. You are very good at handball.

Your Friend
Next week, we think we'll be revisiting the concept of kindness and perhaps a lil' lesson on backhanded compliments.
Just a thought...
We'd love to hear about your Friday Funnies!
LOL!!

Love the cheer! I may have to start a cheer, too. Right now I just do a hug and kiss and a few of the goodbye chants, like "See ya later, alligator! The message center letter is hysterical!

Teaching With Love and Laughter
Oh we love the "See ya later, alligator!" too.
DeleteOur friend who wrote it is such a witty little one. He gets our humor and is usually the only one who laughs at our jokes...Kids are so funny...Teachers, apparently not so much. It's a tough crowd. :)
Have a great weekend Lori!

Kids are so funny! Thanks for the giggle. :-)
ReplyDeleteCrystal
Hey, after 15 years in first grade, we have to find the humor at some point. Mostly we giggle at ourselves, but this one was just too laughable. They really are too funny sometimes.
DeleteEnjoy your weekend Crystal!
